So Shifty - Rumba

So Shifty's remixes for No Doubt, Beware+Motorpitch, El Dusty, Busy Signal, I-Octane, Chan Dizzy, Popcaan, Shal Marshall and others have been popping up left, right and centre. Their high-powered sound system DJ sets are considered to rank among the most powerful shows on the current tropical bass scene.

Now it's high time for the Nordic power duo to release an original release. It features the mighty Cuban trio Madera Limpia from Guantanamo, the infamous town home to the American war prison and contributed an amazing song to the waist-shaking beats of So Shifty. Call it a summer hit even now that summer has already peaked – or simply a big, tropical tune that fuses Reggaeton rhythm patterns with contemporary Moombah sounds.

The EP is heavily loaded with remixes that features a wide range of tropicalists from all over the field. Man Rec boss Daniel Haaksman gave Madera Limpia a another remix treatment and with his tropical trance twist, made it ready for the clubs. Chong-X from Peru, currently considered one of the hottest remix tickets in the transglobal bass field, gave „Rumba“ a heavy Moombathon treatment, right up there with his other recent remixes for Torito Bandindo or Rawpa Crawpa. Legendary Brasilian MC/DJ and producer Edu K, Man Rec's first released artist, returns after a two-year musical hibernation with a surprising North Brasilian / Bahian take on „Rumba“. Additionally, there's german Club dons BassIllEuro from Stuttgart bringing „Rumba“ to the Moombahton crowds, with an uptempo version of So Shifty’s anthem. And last but not least it´s time for the Austin-based Peligrosa crew (from the blog/label/DJ-collective) to give „Rumba“ the Texas treatment.

Rumba is published by Highscore Publishing & TEO Film + Musicproduction.

Schoenrock - Nothin' On Me feat. Bodea

After years of absence Schoenrock returns teaming up with Tanzanian and Berlin based singer Bodea for an old school joint. Apart from minimalistic and maximalistic tendencies Nuthin' On Me is a love affair of back in the days hip hop beats, dubby delay-lines and Bodea's unique vocals. Established on a solid bassline the Original Mix generates a vibe distant from overused high energy synths and recurring vocal lines. A steady piece of Beats and Rhymes.

The following Dutch Rhythm Combo Remix twists the tune in a dancehall style - rhythmizing the message for advanced dancefloor exercise.

Belgian producer K'bonus (also one part of Boohgaloo Zoo) takes another direction: lifting Nothin' On Me to a bass heavy slow jam. Close dance disco boogie for the sophisticated connoisseur.

Besides producing such great music, Schoenrock runs one of the best mastering studios around: Studio Schoenrock

Cumbia Cosmonauts "Tribal Amazonico"

The very first Australian cumbia sound system Cumbia Cosmonauts proves that Barranquilla is just a short hop from Melbourne. The distinctive Cosmonaut sound combines Caribbean offbeat rhythms with raw Afro Sounds and Jamaican dub elements.

The Cosmonauts’ tracks are produced by Moses Iten aka Saca la mois DJ!! and
Thomas “Soup” Campbell (Miso, Editor) who, before getting together, had already demonstrated their instinct and know-how in doing remixes for the likes of Tremor (Argentina), Nortec Collective (Mexico) and Radiokijada (Peru/France). Bringing on the new “Tribal” sound from Mexico, with vocals by Deize Tigrona and a bass tornado, the Cumbia Cosmonauts demonstrate with "Tribal Amazonico"
that they can mix more than explosive psychedelic-dub-club sound cocktails.

Support for the EP came from Amsterdam and Bogotá. The young producer Makina from the Netherlands’ capital made a remix of Tribal Amazonico using his “sound machines” (makinas). The newcomer Cero39 from Colombia is also represented with his remix of Troposphere 5000. The EP is a little taste of the upcoming album Tropical Bass Station on Chusma Records.

Chusma is giving away "Cumbia Theme" for free here and "Macondo" here.

Cumbia Comonauts are published by Edition Chusma / Highscore Publishing.

WILDLIFE! "Pastiche EP"

WILDLIFE! who first gained public attention for his unanimously praised productions for Jamaican bad gal Terry Lynn, and then continued making waves with global bass bubblers “Jumbie”, “Metazoa” and his dancehall-soaked “Buckup EP”, readies his first outing for Man Recordings.

The Swiss badboy teams up with Buraka Som Sistema’s J-Wow, with Toddla T and with Mr. Daniel Haaksman himself to deliver a bass fueled 4-tracker, respectfully paying hommage to a variety of genres they’re drawing inspiration and influence from.

On “DNO” WILDLIFE! & J-Wow deliver slowed down kuduroesque rhythm patterns paired with heavy sub-bass action , while the Toddla T collabo “Hear Dat” swings between grimey dancehall and post-apocalyptic soca madness. On “Paragon” WILDLIFE! and Haaksman take things up to 150 bpm, clashing a Juke/Footwork influenced percussion section with chopped-up vocal bits and genre-defying electronica weirdness. WILDLIFE! rounds things up, with dub influenced half-time smasher “Clappaz”.

The Pastiche EP is co-published by Phree Music and Highscore Publishing.

Listen to the EP here or watch the video here.
