The eclectic legacy of Jamaican music has continued to create a wide variety of new musical impulses over the last five decades. Whether Ska, Reggae, Dub or Dancehall – the small Caribbean island has continually produced entirely new genres of music that reflect the struggles, successes and great ingenuity of its people. Inspired by new production technologies and cultural shifts, Jamaican music never ceases to bear new fruits.

With their debut album, The Unlimiters have taken up this tradition with the aim of forging new paths. The eight-piece set from Berlin is largely inspired by early Ska, a style of music created at the beginning of the 1960s when Calypso merged with Jazz and Rhythm in Blues to form a unique and home-grown Jamaican sound that is still exemplified by unforgettable artists such as The Skatalites and Prince Buster.

The Unlimiters are eight people with eight-and-a-half instruments – teamed up in Berlin’s underground to unleash their smart and bouncing beats and harmonies to the dancefloor – probably right in your neighborhood, so watch out!

Highscore Publishing is happy to announce the release of a new EP by Man Recordings boss Daniel Haaksman. Called “Hands Up”, it’s the perfect summer EP full of eclectic Tropical flavours.

The EP kicks off with “Hands Up” and a Kalimba melody plus the voices of Seguindo Sonhos, a three piece female vocal outfit from Mozambique, who bang out party lyrics in a mish mash of Portugese and English. “Well Oso” is a downbeat track for all of you who miss the good days of loop based, downtempo jams. “Hands Up” & “Well Oso” are co-published by Highscore Publishing.

We’re happy to announce that german fashion brand René Lezard licensed “Bonaire (Al Usher Remix)” by Dutch Rhythm Combo for their fall/winter collection 2010/2011. The Bonaire Remixes were originally released in 2007 on Highscore Publishing. For his remix Al Usher used a few subtle sounds, which steadily build up to a sexy dance floor track.

Bert On Beats has been spinning records and producing for years in his hometown Tallinn, Estonia, under the name DJ Critical, mixing up everything from rap to drum n´bass, ripping clubs apart wherever he drops. When Bert sent in his contribution for the “Kid Conga” remix contest in 2009, Man Rec boss Daniel Haaksman picked the Bert On Beats kuduro and dubstep influenced remix as the winner. Super engineered beats, crisp basslines and a great ear for melody and rhythm made soon clear: Bert On Beats is no rookie. Ever since, Bert has remixed Buraka Som Sistema, Ku Bo and Sekta and now presents his debut artist release: The “Suomo” EP.

“Suomo” features Anbuley on the mike, the Ghana bred and Vienna raised MC with model looks, which debuted as MC on Stereotyp’s Ku Bo project. “Suomo” is a love song in the language GA, which is spoken in the capitol of Ghana, where Anbuley was born and raised until she moved to Vienna. Add the mad beats of Bert On Beats on top and you have a 21st Afro-Tec smasher that is in no way traditionalist but only looks into one direction: The future.

“The Imaginary Band” is the debut album of Dutch Rhythm Combo. Conceived as an imaginary band, the sound of the Dutch Rhythm Combo can’t be precisely categorized. One can roughly locate it in a sound spectrum that spans genres like dub, disco, funk or latin which get freshly flavoured with an acoustic twist.

The music emerged out of long jam sessions with a wide range of musicians from all over the globe: Colombia, Germany, Brasil, Denmark, USA and New Zealand. Felix Haaksman was pulling the strings, recording, arranging and producing music of his imaginary band that could never exist in reality, with its members being from trans-local, trans-continental origin: Colombian born Isa GT, Edu K the former singer and front man of Brazilian punk band De Falla, Joe Dukie from New Zealand’s hot reggae-soul outfit Fat Freddys Drop or Grammy nominated singer and multi-instrumentalist Luke Reynolds from Los Angeles released a wide range of acoustic driven records. In total: Seventeen musicians from seven different countries are involved in this album. To put it short: This is a worldwide affair.

Isabel Gonzalez Toro aka Isa GT is a DJ, MC, music producer and video director from Medellin, Colombia. Having chosen London as her base for the last few years Isa is known in the UK capital as resident of the infamous nights Girlcore and Musicalia, which she has taken around the world.

Isa GT presents her debut “Pa’ Chikirri” EP. For the opener “Pela’o”, Isa takes us to an imaginary Colombian baile funk party, with hard hitting beats and tough raps that make any culo shake. “Pela’o” has been remixed in a banging ghetto tec version by Italian top dogs Crookers, as well as Rio De Janeiro’s tropical master João Brasil.

“Pa’ Las Mamasitas” is a girl power song with a Cumbia influence. Lyrically, it’s on the lack of good guys in London. A radio and club friendly remix comes from Man Recordings label boss Daniel Haaksman. Two hot original tracks and three great remixes – Isa GT‘s “Pa’ Chikirri” EP will make many floors go mucho loco!

Highscore Publishing is happy to announce the release of “Alerta feat Isa GT“, the first single release of the long awaited debut album by Dutch Rhythm Combo. Isa GT from Colombia has been living in London for the last few years djing, singing, producing music, putting on parties and writing her own lyrics.

Felix met Isa during one of her gigs in Berlin 2009 and was highly impressed of her presence on stage – thatʼs where the idea of a feature came up. The next day they went to the studio and recorded “Alerta”. In this midtempo groover Disco and Latin elements meet up to build a tropical disco club slammer. Isa GT on vocals, Mads Krabbe from Copenhagen on bass and Berlin based Boris Meinhold on guitar. Release: March 29 2010.

“El Toro” is the debut track from Viennese duo Dj Beware and Motorpitch.

Edu K is one of Brazil’s hottest dance music exports. He started out playing in punk band De Falla then made his name with a series of releases on Man Recordings based on the baile funk sound of Brazil’s favelas. Since then he has developed a chunky, tropical house sound with tunes like Flutesnoot, recorded exclusively for Bacardi after a sublime set at B-LIVE Berlin in 2009. Brodinski may be a Frenchman, but don’t lump him in with the Paris electro-house scene! He has revealed a harder edge to the sound of France, especially through his radical remixes of Klaxons’ “It Aint Over Til It’s Over” and DIM’s “Is You”. So we’re happy to announce a fresh slice of Brodinski magic in the form of his remix of the Edu K track Flutesnoot.

Mixhell is the electro project of drummer Igor Cavalera and his wife Laima. Igor perfected his signature tribal metal drum sound while playing in Sepultura, Brazil’s biggest rock band, together with vocalist brother Max. Now Mixhell takes those heavy rhythms and puts them through the techno blender, operated by Laima, to the amazement of the crowds who have seen them at festivals and Soul Wax shows – perfect candidates for a remix of Edu K‘s Flutesnoot.

We’re happy to announce that “Flutesnoot” by Edu K was licensed to a worldwide viral campaign by Bacardi. The second movie of the “True Originals” viral series has been published on Youtube today. It features a bartender called “The Hummingbird” in a club bar preparing a Pina Colada for a mystery customer. Following the success of the first Bacardi viral “The Samurai”, Bacardi has now released the second part of the series.

Ku Bo, the new project by Viennese bass-meister STEREOTYP has now joined Highscore Publishing. Two Ku Bo tracks were recently licensed to hot compilations: “Lefe” feat. Anbuley for the Crookers compilation “I Love Techno” (News), and “Tsu Bo” feat. Anbuley for the Fabric Live 49 compilation by Buraka Som Sistema (Fabric).

A collection of remixes of tracks of the first Ku Bo EPs is released in December, followed by the Ku Bo debut album, which is scheduled for a 2010 release on Man Recordings. Expect Ku Bo live shows in spring and summer 2010.

Thanks to Jerome “Blackjoy” Carome for putting his remix of Bonaire by Dutch Rhythm Combo on “Versions – a cool remixes collection”. Man Recordings is giving away the Sharkslayer remix of ‘Pobum Coco’ in a special bassed out dub version here.

If you ever wondered why Highscore releases sound so extra special, it’s because we put a lot of effort into mastering. All Highscore releases were mastered by Studio Schönrock. Based in Berlin, Andreas Schönrock has an experience of more than 8 years in mastering. He did an internship at mastering legend Bob Katz’s “Digital Domain” Studios in Florida, and recently graduated with as a Master Of Arts with high honors in Audio Communication, Musicology and Technical Acoustics at both the Technical and the Humboldt University in Berlin. Andreas is a man of practise with a perfect ear.
